Sustainable development refers to the management of the Earth's resources in order to maintain a global carrying capacity for the human race that is desirable and sustainable, given a continued evolution of technology and quality of life. One common definition is that sustainable development involves meeting the needs of today without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs.


In short: Don't sacrifice tomorrow for today


Sustainable development calls for managed reductions in:

  • Energy consumption
  • Natural resource utilization
  • Human population growth
  • Reduced disparity between rich and poor
