Orkun Karabasoglu was born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1984. He is currently a Ph.D. student at Carnegie Mellon University, under the guidance of Professor [[Jeremy Michalek]]. His primary research areas include:  '''Systems Optimization''' and '''Design for Market Systems'''. He received M.S degree in [http://www.sabanciuniv.edu/eng/ Sabanci University], Turkey where he worked as a research and teaching assistant under supervision of Professor [http://people.sabanciuniv.edu/gkiziltas/ Gullu Kiziltas]. As his master thesis, he developed an efficient design optimization framework for RF and optical applications and applied the framework on design of broad band patch antennas and plasmonic nano-antennas. He integrated metamodeling tools such as artificial neural networks, radial basis functions and kriging with global optimizers(GAs) to speed up the re-anaylsis of electromagnetic systems. He received double B.Sc. degrees in [http://mf.kou.edu.tr/mekatronik/en/index.html mechatronics engineering] with honors from [http://www.kocaeli.edu.tr/anasayfa_eng.htm Kocaeli University], Turkey and [http://www.hochschule-bochum.de/en/ Bochum University of Applied Sciences], Germany. His major was '''control systems''' and '''robotics'''. He completed his bachelor project in collaboration with INNOTEC High Engineering GmbH, Germany where he designed and prototyped the controller and RF based remote control of an air treatment system which was going to be released into market. In [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabanci_University Sabanci University], he led recitations for courses such as 'Me303-Control System Design' and 'NS101-Nature and Science (Physics)' as a teaching assistant. In 2002, he was chosen as one of the 20 people from over 5000 candidates who could become one of the successful business leaders and future visionaries of Turkey in 2020 by YGA.
