Windshield wiper Design

In preparation for our second design review, we generated new design ideas to come up with a second wiper blade that would attach to current models. Our design will be an after market product.

Our two main issues were: 1. How can we make the second blade fit the curvature of the windshield without scraping? 2. How can we attach the second blade to any windshield wiper?

Designs for a blade with variable curvature

Our design ideas incorporated a combination of the following:

  • Multiple Blades
  • Springs
  • Multiple Materials

Multiple blades could be change the radius of curvature without needing a material that would bend easily. The blades would have a small gap between them but this would not pose a huge problem because as the majority of the ice is broken up, the smaller chunks can be easily brushed away. The blades could be connected to eachother by springs, or by a different material. An alternate material, such as silicon, could be injected to the blades by rastering. This would provide a injecting a different (more pliable) material. raster the blade to put in wire silicon
