Jeremy J. Michalek (pronounced me-HA-leck, also Michałek), aka. "J", is a professor of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering & Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University and Director of the Design Decisions Laboratory.
Jeremy is also
- a member of the Green Design Institute at Carnegie Mellon;
- a member of the ASME Design Automation Committee;
- Chair of the Publicity and Newsletter Committee of the ASME Design Engineering Division; and
- Editor of the ASME Design Engineering Division Newsletter.
Brief Biography
Jeremy J. Michalek is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering & Engineering and Public Policy at Carnegie Mellon University. He is the Director of the Design Decisions Laboratory and a member of the Green Design Institute and the Center for Product Strategy and Innovation. His current research focuses on systems optimization, design for market systems, green design and environmental policy.
Jeremy earned his B.S. from Carnegie Mellon (1999) and his M.S. (2001) and Ph.D. (2005) from the University of Michigan in Mechanical Engineering. In 2005 he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Michigan before beginning his current faculty position at Carnegie Mellon.
Jeremy teaches courses in design, product development, and optimization. He has earned awards including the ASME Design Automation Committee Best Paper Award, the George Tallman Ladd Research Award for outstanding research and professional accomplishments, and the National Science Foundation CAREER Award. Jeremy is a member of ASME and INFORMS.
