Improvement Ideas
List of ideas as of 2/27/07: (45 ideas)
Reloading
- word notification on inside of slot
- word warning on incorrect place (on slider)
- lip to prevent wrong loading
- curved sliding bar to prevent wrong loading
Grip Ergonomics
- make handle rubber/silicon (water resistant)
- scissor action for small hands
- lip on handle to scoot hand back farther
- finger grooves on bottom grip
- loops for smaller hands (makes grip smaller)
Safety
- button lock
- sliding lock that blocks staple output area unless it is pressed against a surface
- system that prevents staples from being loaded until handle is being squeezed
- mechanism that doesn't catch until user specifies that they need it to
Mobility
- wrist strap (also applies to safety)
- plastic clip on side of chassis
- fabric clip on side of chassis
- ring on handle
- caribbeaner styled clip at the end of the bottom oval grip\
Alignment
- arrows
Lighter Weight
- make more parts out of plastic
Easier to Squeeze
- longer handle
- have handle change angle so as to squeeze from farther away
Staple Removal
- lip on front
- lip on back
- lip that flips out from chassis
- implement pulling up action to pull staple out
Staples Remaining Notification
- slot
- battery labels
- actual counter (use staple thicknesses)
- bump that moves in when stapler runs out
- drive current through staples to detect how many are left (based on resistance)
Wire Stapling Attachment
- slider on front of stapler
- bars that flip down from the sides
- something that the staples actually hit
Level Attachment
- level incorporated
- level as an attachment (same place where something else attaches?)
- ruler option
Getting Hard to Staple Places
- orientation change
- tube attachment that connects to piston and takes one staple at a time
- preloading lock with button release (can switch modes)
- handle lock to minimize the extent of sqeezing (like safety lock that is already on our staple gun)
Sound
- felt on plastic piece
Power
- rachet mechanism
- dead blow hammer that slides out
- tough flat section to be used as a hammer
Areas of Opportunity
Improve Handle Design
- Rubber/Silicon handle
- Lip to scoot hand back
- Finger groves on bottom grip
- Longer handle (improve ease of use)
- Preloading mechanism
Reloading Mechanism
- Word notification
- Lip to prevent incorrect loading
- Plastic window to see number of staples left
- Staple gauge (most likely on plastic window)
Mobility
- Wrist strap (also for safety)
- Ring on handle/outside clip
- Lighter weight -> more plastic, less metal
Incorporated Accessories
Staple Removal
- Lip on front or back
- Flip out lip front or back
Wires
- Staple blocker
- Staple gun spacer (flip out)
Level
- Incorporated somewhere on staple gun
- Seperate attachment (with possible ruler option)
Hammer
- Flat, hard bottom for hammer
- Dead blow hammer that slides out
