FANTASTIC MEMBERS OF GROUP 3: Here is what we came up with in our meeting today. We still need to add stakeholders, and possibly edit our content a little. I'll try and take a look at this later on tonight, if someone doesn't get a chance before me. Either way, see you tomorrow! :) -Kristine

• What is the function of the product?

The function of the product is to fasten materials together using staples.

• How is it used?

It’s used to securing, or hanging items. Attaching one item to another. Shooting staples at targets.

• What are the inputs and outputs in terms of materials, energy, and information?

INPUT: force of hand squeezing, staples OUTPUT: projectile staple, recoil from handle

• Use the product yourself and then observe another person using the product. If possible, observe a representative user who is not involved in studying the product.

1. Pick up the staple gun and placed hand on handle 2. Positioned material with empty hand against item to be fastened to 3. Positioned gun against the material 4. Squeezed handled to release staple 5. Removed gun and checked to see if the materials were fastened together 6. No staple is present so repeats steps 2-5 7. Locates reloading place for staples 8. Removes slider on bottom of gun to check for staples 9. When no staples are present, finds staples and attempts to insert them 10. Positions staples over extruded part of staple loader and tries to close gun 11. When the slider will not close, repositions staples inside gun and closes slider successfully 12. Repeats steps 2-5 13. Finds that staple has successfully attached the two materials

Note: May have to unlock staple gun or adjust staple power before use. Do not always have to insert new staples.

• Document the product's intended function as well as how it is used with pictures and descriptions, and make notes of annoyances, limitations, and opportunities for improvement.

Intended function is to fasten materials together. Liked, sturdiness and solid weight, easy to load once you know, comfortable grip, power adjustment makes product seem higher quality/more advanced. Annoyances, limitations and opportunities for improvement include, size, force required to shoot staples, difficult to adjust power, no safety lock (lock used for storage), can’t get into small places, awkward to carry on person..

• Identify different groups of users who may have different needs from the user you first identified (for example, on the basis of anthropometry, age, physical or cognitive ability, different use scenarios, etc.) Document important differences in user needs and product functionality.

-Force to dispense staples is high – people with small or weak hands may have difficulty using -People with large hands may not be able to fit their hands in the handle. -People may want to use it improperly – shooting staples at one another -People who need to fit staples in small, tight places may not be able to get the gun into those places

   * Identify other stakeholders besides the end user, such as those who manufacture, distribute, sell, purchase, assist, install, maintain, repair and manage the product's end of life. Document attributes of the product that affect these stakeholders.
