General Classification

  1. Casting & Molding: molten material poured or forced into a mold and cooled to solidify
  2. Powders: particle consolidation
  3. Deformation: plastic deformation to form shape, hot or cold, forging, rolling, extrusion
  4. Subtractive: material removed to make shape, machining, cutting
  5. Heat Treatment: to alter mechanical properties or surface treatment
  6. Joining & Assembly: welding, riveting, adhesives, snap fits, fasteners
